NHS West Kent CCG were interested in exploring how to prevent Falls, so we visited an older person’s forum, spoke to people at community events throughout the area and at Good Neighbours postural stability classes and ran an online survey asking people to share their views and experiences.
In March 249 people responded. Overall, our survey shows that 75 per cent (184) of them are worried about falling, and preventing falls is a major concern for people. You told us that: older people want help to feel more confident of moving around and less worried about falling, and that you would prefer practical support with balance and physical activity, either in a class , as a group or individually. When compared to other health related projects and activities the people who completed the survey were older, 70 per cent 71 – 90 years of age.
NHS West Kent Clinical Commissioning Group have been working to re-design and commission a new falls prevention service. Getting the service right has taken time and we aim to commission the new service in 2018/19.
