Woodlands Medical Practice Branch Surgery Closure

It is with sadness that we announce The Woodlands Medical Practice is closing its branch surgery in East Peckham on 31 March 2018.

We understand how much the community values this branch of the practice and over the last two years, since closure was first mooted, we have worked closely with the practice, NHS England, East Peckham Parish Council and others to try to find a solution. This includes considering the offer from East Peckham Parish Council of £100,000 to pay for remedial works to the building.

However, detailed assessment of the building work required to bring the premises up to NHS standards and the requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for GP practices shows that it would cost at least £250,000, much more than originally anticipated.

This is unaffordable, therefore, the CCG has reluctantly agreed to the closure of the branch surgery and that the practice will operate only from its main premises, the Woodlands Health Centre, in Paddock Wood.

All the patients who live in East Peckham are registered with the practice at its main site in The Woodlands Health Centre.

Currently a GP runs five morning clinics a week at the branch surgery in East Peckham, and a blood-taking clinic is held at the branch one morning a week. For all other services, including appointments with the practice nurse, patients already travel to the Woodlands Health Centre.

Patients will be notified of the changes and will continue to be able to access a full range of primary medical services from the Woodlands Health Centre.

We appreciate that registered patients and the local community may have some questions around the branch surgery’s closure; a list of frequently asked questions can be found here www.woodlandshealthcentre.org.uk

Alternatively, to ask a specific question, please contact the practice manager.
