A public meeting for Edenbridge residents, and those from the surrounding villages, to discuss proposals for a combined GP surgery and hospital in the town is to be hosted by Tom Tugendhat MP on Saturday 25 March starting at 11.30am.

The consultation on options for a brand-new combined hospital/surgery in Edenbridge launched on 1February 2017 and will run to 26 April 2017.

NHS West Kent Clinical Commissioning Group, Edenbridge Medical Practice and Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust are consulting on proposals to locate the GP practice and community hospital services under one roof. They believe the best option for Edenbridge is a combined hospital/surgery in a new building on a new site. That would be a facility which would  offer a wide range of outpatient clinics and day care (such as intravenous drips provided on a daily basis), a range which is not currently available in Edenbridge.

Tom Tugendhat, MP for Tonbridge and Malling said: “I’m pleased to be bringing people together to listen to what residents have to say about these exciting plans for healthcare in the area. A new facility that combines the GP surgery and the hospital would provide a range of services that will serve the population of Edenbridge and its surrounding villages well into the future. This is our chance to shape what we want while the NHS is consulting on the proposals.”

The meeting will take place at the WI Hall in Station Road, no booking is necessary and tea and coffee will be available.

A final public meeting has been arranged at:

Edenbridge Leisure Centre, Stangrove Park on Tuesday 25 April from 6.30 to 8.30pm, where representatives from the NHS organisations will feedback from the consultation so far and offer an opportunity for the public to ask questions.

A full consultation document, and an online questionnaire are available on the CCG’s website at www.westkentccg.nhs.net/edenbridgefuture, or paper copies can be picked up from:

  • Edenbridge Medical Practice
  • The Eden Centre
  • Edenbridge and District War Memorial Hospital

They will be also available at each of the public meetings or by emailing engagement.secsu@nhs.net or calling 03000 424348.

This is the first stage in a long process. Once the outcome of the consultation is agreed, it will be necessary to seek planning permission and work with investment partners (such as NHS Property Services which currently owns the hospital building) to secure funding for the new building.

A decision on the outcome of the consultation is expected in the summer, with a view to starting the implementation of any changes in the autumn, although it could be some time before any visible progress is seen.

NHS West Kent Clinical Commissioning Group plans and buys healthcare for the people of Maidstone, Tonbridge and Malling, Tunbridge Wells and the southern part of Sevenoaks.
